Volunteerism: Giving Back to the Community

Most people believe that the only way to give back is by making a monetary donation, but that is not the case. Instead, you can give your time and it is just as appreciated! Volunteering is a great way to give back to a community and can help an organization reach its fundraising goals. Not only do volunteers save an organization money, but they also help to provide better service for all guests at our events. This makes for a much more enjoyable experience for all involved whether that be at a gala, cocktail reception or a charity run/walk. At Powered by Professionals, we strive to give attendees the most engaging event experience possible, while enabling our non-profit clients to raise as much money as they can to help their charitable organization.

Volunteers make a significant impact and we rely on volunteers to help make our events happen. You do not need to know every event detail to be a huge help; just showing up and being available is what event planners need most on event day! From auction set up, putting gift bags together, greeting guests, assisting at registration and cleaning up- volunteers contribute immensely to the success of our events.

Here are a few reasons why you should have a volunteering experience:

You Are Needed

What a non-profit organization needs most, other than donations, is free labor! When the community steps up to volunteer at an organization’s event, it allows the charity to put more of the event proceeds towards the organization’s mission.

Community Building

No matter what organization you are volunteering for, you are enhancing society. Working with your fellow community members lets you make connections, create change and supporting the mission of the organization.

Builds Self-Esteem and Friendships

You may not think volunteering can benefit you, but it does! Doing something for others is rewarding and allows you to use valuable skill sets that you may not have knew you had. Volunteering allows people with similar interests to connect. You can make long-lasting friends from volunteering and it may become a consistent activity you do together.

Networking

This is a great way to get to meet other like-minded people in the community. Whether they are a volunteer themselves or a guest, you can meet many more people outside of your regular circle. Not only could volunteering lead to future career opportunities but it allows you to practice skills needed in the workplace such as problem-solving, communication and team building.

Gain Work Experience

Volunteering is a great way to get your foot in the door by doing and learning something new. You can harness new skills while promoting a cause and giving back to those in need. Think about what causes or job fields interest you, then find a non-profit and sign up for a volunteer opportunity.

Build Your Resume

Most employers like to see that you do something to give back to the community. Volunteering is a great way to show that you have provided support or development to a cause. If you build a relationship with the people you help volunteer with, then you could even use them as a reference.

Making A Difference

Every volunteer makes a difference no matter how big or how small the contribution. Volunteers make a vision become reality, especially when it comes to events and fundraising. We must continue to encourage people to take the initiative to volunteer and share positive volunteering experiences with others.
